On Saturday, June 8th, 1878 I first became pecuniarily interested in the Montreal, Portland and Boston Railway in November, 1874 by purchasing and paying for Municipal Debentures, which were never delivered to me. This, together with subsequent advances, constituted so large an indebtedness against the Company that I. Found it necessary to identify myself more closely with the Road, in order to accomplish its completion, which I found would alone give me any hopes of reimbursing myself the money I had parted with.
