On the night of Monday, April 30, 1951, Mayless Cribb Coker was murdered as she walked toward her apartment along Screven Street in the historic district of the City of Georgetown. The murder occurred in the same city block as the old county jail, Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church and only a stone's throw from Karnes Court, 712 Duke Street, the duplex where she lived with her husband, Louis H. Coker.
