With the coming of the Manned Spacecraft Center in the early 1960s, the Clear Lake Area became the center for cutting-edge technology and space travel. Soon to follow were numerous aerospace contracting firms and other high-tech enterprises, giving the area one of the highest concentrations of aerospace expertise in the nation.
