Cassandra 'Cassie' Keaton is a single mother with three children, one bi-racial. She struggles to put order in her life. Enter her landlord Randall Court who is used to fixing his family's problems. He befriends Cassie's son, Michael when he gets into trouble. Cassie opens up her personal life to Randall but he remains guarded about aspects of his life. When he defends her during an incident at her waitressing job at a local bar, she begins to think he has truer feelings.
