Beneath the mestizo myth maintained by the State and accepted by society, there hides a racial hierarchy and structure in which different social groups have been historically marginalized and removed from their lands. In Mexico, racist ideas have received little attention in cultural studies but are often present in public. In this book, Lund analyzes this issue through the works of four Mexican writers: Luis Alva, Ignacio Manuel Altamirano, Rosario Castellanos, and Elena Garro.
