In August of 2009, Gregor Southard was pulled aside by a Human Resources representative and told that the company he worked for was going in another direction. A career that spanned 18 years was suddenly over. Unable to find significant work in his field, things began to fall apart. By the fall of 2012, he found himself living in a house with no utilities (for eight months) after his life savings were exhausted. Finally, in the fall of 2013, he lost his house as well.
